Side kick

Dear Batman,

By the time you read this I will be gone. I have covered my tracks well and you will
not find me. I have left my bat-cape and bat-gadgets with Harold. Do with them as
you will. The glamour of a caped crusader's life has worn thin and I am no longer
satisfied with the inequalities within our working relationship. A super side-kick can
only take so much. I am 28 years old and, to be honest, the tights and cape have
become a social embarrassment. The girls only talk to me to get to you. They love
that mean mysterious man in black look. That’s another thing. Why are you the one
who gets to wear black, while I prance around in crimson and green? I might as
well wear sequins and a feather boa! The humiliation of answering to the name 'Boy
Wonder”'at my age can damage a man’s self respect. I have lived in your shadow
long enough, Batman, standing on the side while you pull all the chicks, watching
you take all the glory for our super hero do-gooding. Frankly, I’m bored with it all.
I’m sick of being a super hero, sick of being second best and sick of your infernal
obsession with silky legwear and leather corsets. I want to do something different for
a change. I want to find my own way. I want to wear p.v.c and denim and get a tattoo
of a tiger on my bum. I want to eat hamburgers and cakes and not worry about fitting
into that tight little cossie you ran up for me last week. The life of a super hero has
worn thin. There aren’t enough super heroines to go round. You’ve cornered the
market on Cat Woman, Super Girl is such a drip and Wonder Woman is still wearing
that 70s hairband and those awful cowgirl boots. There’s no place for side-kicks in
the 2lst Century. Everyone must be their own hero or heroine. I must find my own
way and follow my own destiny. I cannot live in the shadow of your bat-cape any
longer. I resign from my post as Super Sidekick. I wish you well Batman.

Sincerely yours,
Robin

It is sometimes difficult to find our own way in the world and to establish our own
identity.

We are all original and unique. We can choose to follow others or we can make our
